Politically Correct Flood

Letter to the Editor - Recent Flood waters did more than 20 million dollars of damage in Snohomish County. Being a politically correct person, I would never want us to question this natural devastation.

We are an enlightened population to how we must protect our natural environment not protect against its destruction to property, homes, roads and bridges caused by flooding.

I certainly for one do not want to be stoned if asking the question why the safety, mobility and saved dollars is not equally important as saving a fish, farm land and Indian rights?

How could we be so insensitive to the plight of the poor farmer by discussing how the historic creation of diking districts, the ongoing wars to raise those dikes to protect one over another has diverted the natural flow of flood water?  None of us could whisper annoyance to know the State rebuilt a section of  SR 9 below flood stage to protect farmland from a couple of feet more flood water.

Could we ever dare challenge native Indian rights by asking question of how fish population historically survived river dredging but ask how many could never survive commercial Indian nets?  No, I am not alone, apparently none of us would ever be so politically incorrect. - Internet Post
