Snohomish County Train Watch

Acknowledging the substantial outpouring of public interest in issues relating to rail safety at the public presentation of the Snohomish County Train Watch on June 10, a series of monthly strategy meetings are planned to address the public risks of trains that transport coal, crude oil and hazmat through our community. The public is invited to learn the latest developments on this issue and how citizens can get involved locally.

At the upcoming meeting, the guest speaker will be Everett City Council Member Paul Roberts, who will present for the 1st half of the meeting on the topics of railroad issues and local climate action planning. In addition to his nine years of service on the Everett City Council, Paul Roberts has served as a member of the Washington State Land Use & Climate Change Advisory Committee and he is currently Chair of the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency Board.

During the 2nd half of the meeting, the group will learn about newly obtained information regarding bridge and rail inspections in Snohomish County, received from the U.S. Department of Transportation through a freedom of information request. In addition, attendees will participate in a strategy session focusing on future train watches. Upcoming regional events will be announced to encourage public participation in issues relating to rail safety of coal, crude and hazmat transports.

The group will meet every 4th Tuesday with a guest speaker.
