County’s Energy Smart Loan program

In its first two years, Snohomish County’s Energy Smart Loan program financed 360 home energy loans and saved more than 6 billion BTUs of energy – enough to power 166 homes for one year, or the Seattle Monorail for two years.

A report released today, June 24, details the energy savings made by the program since its implementation in 2012.

"In its first two years, the Energy Smart Loan program has exceeded our expectations," said Snohomish County Executive John Lovick. "Our goal was to help 100 homeowners each year with energy improvements through low-interest financing – and we’ve helped more than 300.”

Energy and Sustainability Manager Lisa Dulude said the program has generated approximately $5.9 million in economic benefits for Snohomish County. With an average project investment of $10,350, local homeowners are saving more than $180,000 per year on utility bills – and benefiting local contractors in the energy efficiency industry.

“The program has invested more than $3.6 million in home energy saving investments, which has generated nearly $2 million in new contract work for Snohomish County contractors alone,” Dulude said. “We’re excited to not only help people save money on their utility bills, but help job growth in energy efficiency and renewables.”
