Search for New Transit CEO

Snohomish County, Wash. – The Community Transit Board of Directors has begun the process to find a permanent replacement for CEO Joyce Eleanor, who is retiring after leading the agency for 20 years. Eleanor’s last day is Monday, August 11.

“Community Transit is a leading-edge transit agency and a vital part of Snohomish County’s growing economy,” said Community Transit Board Chair and Mill Creek City Councilmember Mike Todd. “We will look for a leader with vision and a commitment to public service.”

A request for proposals (RFP) has been issued for a search firm to conduct a national recruitment. Responses are due August 15, and the Board hopes to pick a search firm at its regular monthly meeting in September. The recruitment process is expected to last through the end of 2014, with the hope that finalists will be announced at the December Board meeting.

The Board of Directors has named Administration Department Director Emmett Heath to serve as CEO in the interim.

Heath joined Community Transit in 2005. During his career he served in executive roles at Snohomish County PUD and King County Metro Transit for more than 25 years. At Community Transit, Heath has overseen the budgeting process, which is a main focus of the agency this fall.

Following the schedule outlined by the Board, a new CEO should be in place by early 2015.
