lane and ramp closures on SR 522

Drivers who use State Route 522 near Monroe should be prepared for daytime lane closures and nighttime ramp closures beginning Monday, Jan. 26.

Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation plan to work on drainage and guardrail for the SR 522 widening project between the Snohomish River Bridge and US 2.

Monday, Jan. 26 to Friday, Jan. 30 closure details:
• Up to one lane in each direction of SR 522 may be closed daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• The westbound SR 522 off-ramp to 164th Street Southeast/Main Street will be closed nightly from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• The eastbound SR 522 off-ramp to 164th Street Southeast/Main Street will be closed nightly from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• One lane of 164th Street Southeast/Main Street between Fryelands Boulevard and the east roundabout will be closed nightly from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. A pilot car will lead traffic through the remaining open lane.

The widening project is one of the final stages of a $145.5 million investment in the SR 522 corridor, which included a new flyover ramp at the US 2 interchange, wetland and restoration work. The improvements were funded by the 2003 gas tax.
