Search and Rescue Locate Injured Hiker

Snohomish County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue located and rescued an injured hiker last Saturday. The hiker, a male in his early 20's, was scrambling between Lake Serene and Mt. Pilchuck when he fell. Though the injuries he sustained were not severe, they limited his mobility to leave the backcountry safely on foot. He called 911 around noon and the Helicopter Rescue Team, which was in the area for training, located him a short time later. The man was flown to Taylor's Landing where he was met by aid units.

SAR Deputy Glen Bergstrom noted that the man was fortunate to be in cell range to call 911 and that it is not recommended for backcountry travelers to rely on cell service for emergencies. Hikers and climbers should file a hiking plan which they leave behind with a trusted friend or relative.
