Archbishop Murphy digital archive

With the addition of 243 new documents, the Archbishop Thomas J Murphy Virtual Archive is now complete. The digital archive is a collection of the archbishop’s works over his lifetime. This archive includes columns, homilies, addresses, and newspaper columns and can be viewed on the AMHS website. The school worked closely with the Archbishop’s family while putting together this robust online resource. Brian Murphy, the archbishop’s nephew, feels this library is a testament to his uncle’s gift of writing.
“The archbishop possessed a unique ability to convey the key principles of the Catholic Church and the core foundations of his ministry in a meaningful way – a way that priests, religious men and women and lay people could absorb and understand.”

The documents in the Online Archive cover three time periods:
• 1972 to 1978 – His ministry in Chicago as a priest and as Rector of St. Mary of the Lake Seminary
• 1978 to 1987 – Bishop of the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings, MT
• 1987 to 1997 – Archbishop of Seattle

The school launched the archive on the Archbishop’s birthday in celebration of his continued presence on and off the school’s campus.
