Little Team that Could

WEST Coast Aquatics — a Mill Creek based swim team of 85 swimmers, lead by Head Coach and General Manager, Nick Chevalier, will host the Pacific Northwest Swimming (PNS) Long Course Senior Championship meet, July 23-25, at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

The meet has gotten large enough in recent years that the local swimming committee has decided to split the meet into two meets based on age, which will make both meets even more competitive and accommodate a greater number of swimmers. The meet hosts swimmers from the area ranging from Bellingham to Olympia and Bremerton, and from Bainbridge Island to Issaquah.

"We take a lot of pride in not only hosting a great meet, but our team also regularly finishes within the top ten against teams that are two to three times our size," says Chevalier. "We've had several outstanding swims including Junior National qualification times and several PNS championship swims and records."

The WEST Coast Aquatics swim season runs from September through August, with 18-20 meets each year—six hosted by the local team. Practices are held in Mill Creek at the WEST Coast Aquatics Center, located near, but separate from the Mill Creek Country Club.
