Snohomish County has reached a settlement in a civil case regarding a mishandled public records request by the Sheriff’s Office. The claim was brought forward by a Corrections Deputy as a result of a request he made for records in 2010. It was determined that the request was never properly processed or fulfilled.

“The case brought to light weaknesses in our public records request processing,” said Sheriff Ty Trenary. “The issues identified as a result of this claim led to significant changes in staffing and processing in our Public Disclosure Unit.”

The settlement agreement for $600K was presented to the Snohomish County Council today.
