Attempt to Elude Police

Marysville Police investigated a one-car injury collision in the 200 block of State Ave., in Marysville, that occurred after an officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle.

Just after 7:00 p.m. this evening a vehicle travelling southbound on State Ave. passed a Marysville patrol car in excess of the posted speed limit. The officer fell in behind the car and soon thereafter attempted to make a traffic stop. The vehicle sped up slightly and refused to yield. The vehicle sped up a second time and drove through a red light at 4th Street and State Ave., then immediately swerved out of control when attempting to go around another car; eventually colliding with a light pole and some trees.

Four occupants in the vehicle fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit officers were able to take two male suspects into custody.

The driver, a 20 year old Lake Stevens man, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance. Witnesses observed him throw, what turned out to be, heroin with an estimated street value of $2,400 and nearly $1,200 in cash into bushes as he was running from officers. He sustained a minor injury to a wrist due to the collision. He will be booked into the Snohomish County Jail.

A passenger, 19, also from Lake Stevens, was arrested for obstructing a police officer. He was cited and released. He was not injured in the collision.

Two female passengers were not located and are at large. Officers are not actively looking for the female passengers.

The Marysville Police Collision Investigation Team investigated the collision. As a result State Ave. between 3rd Street and 1st Street was closed to traffic for about two hours.
