Shots fired in Lake Stevens

Detectives continue investigating the incident that occurred on the night of April 13, 2016 when a 22 year-old male was shot. The male was shot multiple times and remains at Everett Providence Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

Witnesses called 911 after the male fired his rifle multiple times in downtown Lake Stevens. About 45 minutes after officers contacted him, a Sergeant from Lake Stevens Police shot the male. Detectives recovered four shell casings from the Sergeants rifle.

A bystander recorded the incident and his phone was seized for evidence so the video could not be destroyed. The bystander consented to detectives downloading the video and his phone was returned. The video is available at www.everettwa.gov/DocumentCenter/View/6194.

LAKE STEVENS, Wash. – Detectives continue investigating the shooting incident that occurred last night, April 13, 2016. The involved person is described as a 22 year-old white male, and he currently remains at Everett Providence Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

The Lake Stevens Police Sergeant who fired his weapon has 10 years police experience with the Lake Stevens PD. He has been placed on administrative leave as per standard procedure of the Lake Stevens Police Department. Officers from Lake Stevens Police, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, Snohomish Police and Arlington Police were initial responders to the scene.

The investigation continues and future updates will be provided as information becomes available.

LAKE STEVENS, Wash. – Detectives continue to investigate the shooting incident. The initial 911 reports of gunshots came in just before 11 p.m. and the shooting incident occurred about 45 minutes later on the roadway at 18th St NE and Main St. At least 10 officers from multiple police agencies were at the scene when the shooting occurred. There were no vehicles involved and a rifle was recovered at the scene. The suspect is in surgery.

The roadway remains closed and there is no timeline on when it will reopen.

LAKE STEVENS, Wash. – Just before 11 p.m., officers with the Lake Stevens Police Department responded to 18th St NE and Main St after receiving several reports of gunshots heard in the area. Arriving officers contacted a 22 year-old male with a firearm and instructed him to drop his weapon but the male refused. After additional attempts to negotiate, officers fired at the man.

The man was transported to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported by civilians or police.

The area of 18th St NE and Main St in downtown Lake Stevens is currently closed to traffic for the investigation.

The incident is under investigation by the Snohomish County Multi-Agency Response Team (SMART), a team of detectives from various Snohomish County law enforcement agencies who respond to and investigate police use-of-force incidents in the county.
