Six new artworks are now on view at the Snohomish County campus in downtown Everett as part of the 2016 Sculpture Exhibition sponsored by the Snohomish County Arts Commission. The artworks represent a variety of styles and mediums from a diverse group of artists from across the Puget Sound region. All artworks will be on display through December 2016.

Artists Pat McVay, James Lapp, Robert Fairfax, Kevin Pettelle, Verena Schwippert, and Vincent Cavanaugh each bring a unique approach to their craft. Stone and metal artist Vincent Cavanaugh began creating sculptures from the time he graduated from Seattle Central College in 1975 and throughout his career as a correctional officer at the Monroe Correctional facility. His twisted metal pieces require time and talent to create, but the process offers respite from his demanding day job, from which he recently retired. His welded steel sculpture Sea Grass, reflects the simplicity of form and elegance while depicting blades moving in an urban current.

Arlington stone sculptor Verena Schwippert combines Pink granite atop Cascade granite to partner two distinct stones that represent the Hebrew letter Shinn, which stands for Shalom or Peace, in English.

Other sculptures include James Lapp’s Egg, a welded stainless steel oval; Pat McVay’s Otter Moon, a carving created from salvaged red cedar; Robert Fairfax’s The Official Seal of Frog Bog, a playful insignia displaying the head honcho of a watery kingdom; and sculptor Kevin Pettelle’s Salutation, a bronze sculpture of the female form whose arms are outstretched as she greets the day.

“Our community is enhanced by these beautiful and thought-provoking creations,” said Dave Somers, Snohomish County Executive. “The Snohomish County plaza becomes a gallery without walls during the temporary sculpture exhibition, and we are proud to help nurture such diverse artistic talents.”

The Snohomish County campus is located in downtown Everett at 3000 Rockefeller Avenue. The exhibit is free and open to the public and is accessible during business hours.
