Marysville SWAT officers were called to a residence in the 8300 block of 76th Ave., where a wanted felon had barricaded himself in his home after officers had attempted to arrest him.

Just after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening officers observed the suspect, a 31 year old Marysville man, drive away from his residence. There was probable cause to arrest the suspect for Arson and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Officers were preparing to make a stop on the vehicle when the suspect sped away, quickly returning to his residence, running inside and refusing to surrender.

The suspect’s father, who also resides in the home, was inside at the time but was able to escape just after 8:00 p.m. He was able to advise officers his son was in possession of a shotgun.

Both the Marysville SWAT team and crisis negotiators were called to the scene. Negotiators were able to have a brief phone conversation with the suspect before he broke off communication and refused further attempts at contact.

At one point during the standoff the suspect was outside on the front porch area yelling at officers. In an attempt to take him into custody, he was shot with a rubber bullet that struck him in the lower torso. The suspect ran back into the residence and did not come out again.

Earlier in the evening officers were advised by the father his son had set fire to an area around an exterior door but the suspect had put it out before any significant damage had occurred.

SWAT team members entered the residence just after 11:30 p.m. and located the suspect who was deceased with self-inflicted injuries. No other persons involved in the incident were injured.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office removed the body from the scene and will determine the official cause of death at a later time.
