Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Snohomish County Public Works was faced with putting its Adopt-a-Road program on hold in 2020. After more than a one-year hiatus, the program is back and ready for new groups to join. New and currently registered groups can also contact Public Works to schedule their next clean up.

“As residents begin to venture out again, we are eager to welcome back the volunteer groups and hope additional groups are excited to give back to their communities by joining the Adopt-a-Road program,” said James Parker, Road Maintenance Director. “All volunteers will need to follow county COVID-19 protocols regarding masking when picking up cleanup supplies from county facilities. Fully vaccinated individuals are not required to wear a mask and unvaccinated individuals are asked to wear a mask and practice physical distancing with others.”

To join the program, groups should identify a leader, select a pre-approved adoptable road within unincorproated Snohomish County, complete and submit an application form and watch the required safety-training video. There are more than 30 sections of road across Snohomish County that are available for adoption. Once approved, groups are required to perform two cleanups per year and commit to participating for two years.

The program, which launched in 2008, forms partnerships between volunteer groups and Snohomish County Public Works, to keep our roadsides free of litter and promote community pride.
