Southeast Eastgate Way

BELLEVUE – Drivers who use Southeast Eastgate Way between Eastgate and Factoria will need to use alternate routes starting at 8 a.m. Monday, March 6. The road will be closed around the clock for several weeks at the 142nd Place Southeast bridge.

During the closure, Washington State Department of Transportation contractor crews will repair and reinforce a steel girder that supports the overpass, which also goes over Interstate 90. Businesses along Southeast Eastgate Way will remain open. Buses, pedestrians and bicyclists will be able to pass under the bridge using the transit lanes at the nearby Eastgate Park and Ride.

Detour routes
The Southeast Eastgate Way detour route uses Richards Road Southeast, Southeast 36th and 38th streets and 150th Avenue Southeast. Drivers who use the 148th Avenue Southeast on-ramp to westbound I-90 also should expect closures and a detour using the 156th Avenue Southeast on-ramp.

Girder repairs
The girder was damaged on Aug. 8, 2022, when it was struck by a truck hauling overheight construction equipment on Southeast Eastgate Way. The collision tore a portion of the girder and bent it about 6 inches out of line. The northbound lane of 142nd Place Southeast has been closed since the incident. It will reopen when repairs are complete.

To repair and strengthen the girder, the contractor will need about five weeks to replace the damaged flange along the bottom of the girder, straighten the steel and attach reinforcement plates.
