The Military Road and Cadyville

Since 1792 there had been much suspicion as to what Great Britain would do to make good her claim on the Puget Sound region, for it was on June 4th of that year that Captain George Vancouver, at a point near the present location of Everett, formally laid claim to the entire North Pacific Coast on behalf of King George 3rd.

Noble George Harvey

Noble George Garvey, born in 1873, the first white boy baby sin Snohomish County, grew into his teens much as other pioneer children. He loved the out-of-doors and, when not helping his father clear land, spent his time hunting and fishing or at the sports and games of the times.

Roads and the Snohomish River

The first record of the Snohomish River was a map make by Commodore Wilkes in 1841, and for years after the white man came to this wilderness to establish homes, the river was the only practical means of transportation for settlers to and from "the outside".

William Whitfield

William Whitfield was born in Bethnel Green, London, England, on September 1, 1846. He left school at the age of 12 and entered the coastal shipping service under apprenticeship to his uncle.

Blackman Brothers

The Blackman brothers arrived in Snohomish in 1872, from their native state of Maine where they were operators in logging and mills. In 1880 the brothers startled the entire Puget Sound region with the announcement that henceforth they would use railroad cars for hauling logs from their camps.

John Harvey, grandfather of the present manager of the Snohomish Airfield, was born near Modsburg, Devonshire County, England on March 9, 1829. Anxious to try his fortune in the U.S.A., he slipped aboard a vessel bound for America.
