Snohomish has launched a Facebook fan page, using the hugely popular social media tool as yet another way to communicate with residents and visitors interested in Snohomish. Many cities, businesses, and organizations use fan pages to allow fans to follow news, view photos and videos, start discussions, and more. In addition to getting out regular City news, event information, and more, the speed and efficiency of social media communications provides the added benefit of nearly instantaneous updates that could be used in cases of emergency such as floods. "Social networking sites like Facebook allow for two-way interaction with residents by providing a platform to easily gather feedback, encourage participation, and give a sense of belonging to our followers," said Debbie Emge, Economic Development Manager. "Our Facebook site is just one more tool to offer easily accessible and understandable communications to our citizens and other key audiences in a variety of formats that suit individual preferences." Facebook is an added communication tool in addition to the City Manager's weekly electronic newsletter and the Citys website. "Social networking sites help support our goal to provide communications to our community in formats easy for them to find and use, and its clear to see Facebook has enormous followings," said Emge. To become of fan of Snohomish on Facebook, search for "City of Snohomish" and look for the Citys logo.
