Sophomore Timothy Kranick, a home school student in Snohomish, paged in the state House of Representatives Feb. 21-26. He was sponsored by his 44th District state representative Mike Hope. "I'm pleased Timothy had the opportunity to watch the Legislature in action and learn so much," said Hope, R-Lake Stevens. "The page program is important because it encourages young people to get involved in their government." During his week in Olympia, Kranick attended page school daily to understand the operations and actions of the Legislature. At the end of the week, Kranick wrote and promoted a mock bill addressing fees for firearms permits. The 16-year-old also served an important role in the Legislature delivering documents to legislators and staff on the floor of the House and throughout the capitol campus. Each week, students 14- to 16-years-old from across the state serve in the legislative page program. They must have a legislative member as a sponsor, as well as permission from their school and parents.
