Can the second year school in Snohomish get any hotter? Of course we are talking about the new high school, Glacier Peak. Only in its second year and already headed to the Tacoma Dome for class 3A boys basketball state playoffs. The Grizzlies have shown remarkable talent in all of their sports, this year make it all the way to quarterfinals in football and now going to state in boys basketball. The girls play tonight which will decide their position. Last night's game at Glacier Peak high school was standing room only. The new Glacier Peak gym has an additional seating section that is available in their upper gym; this section was fully open and fully occupied. There is no doubt that the crowd had an impact on the game. The Meadowdale Mavericks had a sizable crowd of their own including cheerleaders. The Mavericks boys basketball team is on average larger than the Grizzlies. The Grizzlies started out strong and were quickly up by six points toward the end of the first quarter. But the Mavericks were not intimidated and fought their way back to a 25 to 24 lead at the half. The scoring was even in the third quarter but the Grizzlies turned up the heat in the fourth. With a couple of free throws from Hill at the start of the fourth quarter glacier peak never looked back. The final score at Glacier Peak was Grizzlies 55 and the Mavericks 50.
