On Thursday the Community Transit Board met to determine cuts to service beginning in June and agreed with a number of Snohomish citizens and local officials who argued for some restoration of the Route 424 that provides service from Snohomish to Seattle. The disappointing news, however, for many Snohomish County bus riders is that Sunday service will be temporarily suspended until needed revenues improve for Community Transit. Snohomish County Councilmember and alternate Community Transit board member Dave Somers moved to amend the staff proposed service change for the Commuter Route 424 to reinstate three round-trip routes from the Snohomish Park & Ride. After much discussion this amendment passed on a split vote of 5-4. Snohomish City Councilmember Tom Hamilton, an alternate board member representing small cities in the County, had also been a strong proponent of restoring Route 424 service. The proposed service reductions by CT staff would have completely eliminated the Snohomish stops for Route 424, and these service cuts would have made it impractical for most of the communitys bus riders to use transit services for their commutes to King County. The Snohomish City Council also supported the restoration of Route 424, and Mayor Karen Guzak wrote a letter on behalf of the Council that requested restoration of this vital route used by area residents commuting to both Seattle and Eastside locations. City staff also worked with CT staff in support of restoring the local commuter bus service.
