A dangerous intersection for high school students in Snohomish County will soon have a traffic light thanks to the work of Rep. Mike Hope in Olympia. After the House and Senate passed different versions of the state transportation budget, the two chambers went to conference. During conference, Hope asked the chair of the House Transportation Committee to include $200,000 for the project. Located near Archbishop Murphy High School off 132nd Street north of Mill Creek, the intersection has been a problem for high school students and teachers trying to turn onto 39th Avenue, which leads to the school. "Both Snohomish County and the school have committed funding to the project. This was the states contribution since 132nd is part of a state highway," said Hope, R-Lake Stevens. "This is an important community project to keep drivers safe and traffic moving. I'm thankful for the work of my colleagues across the aisle to include this funding." The budget, agreed upon by the Legislature today, now goes to the governor for her signature.
