The Klahaya days festival in Snohomish got underway last night with one of the best Balloon Glow shows in the history of the event. Thousands of people gathered at Harvey Field in Snohomish to be entertained by four live bands and a community picnic. Later in the evening hot air balloons began to set up for the annual balloon glow. What made this year's event unique was the arrival of three additional balloons at dusk, they landed across the field near the runway and also put on a show for attendees. This made for an unforgettable and very photo friendly evening especially having the amusement rides lit in the background. Following the balloon glow was the fire in the sky fireworks show. This fabulous annual event also was something to see, and was seen from miles away including a very picturesque view from the football field at Glacier Peak high school. Today's events began with a river running and kids dash followed by the opening of the arts and crafts Street fair Festival. You can follow your nose to First Street to our Taste of Snohomish food vendor booths on Saturday and Sunday until about 6pm. While the restaurants compete with each other to tantalize your taste buds, a fantastic street fair will be displaying some of the best shopping around. And should you manage to shop your way through the over fifty commercial booths there are still dozens of great shops and restaurants to keep you going. The street fair is located on historic Union, Glen, Pearl and Cedar Streets in Downtown Snohomish, already famous for it's fabulous antique stores and boutiques. Lots to see and do for the whole family! This evening our own Bob McDaniel will lead the Sunset Parade sponsored by McDaniels Do-It Center. This popular parade features floats costumes drill teams high school marching bands and everything that he would expect to see in a parade expected attendance is around 15,000 people so come early. The classic car show is Sunday July 18th, 10 am - 5 pm Over Two Hundred Fifty of the finest Rod, Custom and Classic Cars from around the Sound will assemble for the nostalgia of this annual Rod and Custom Car Show & Shine. Quarter Midget cars are on display. Takes place on First Street in historic Downtown Snohomish. Over 5 Million Dollars worth of beautiful cars, antique shops, music and booths attract an average of 12,000 spectators. Hosted by the Everett Boeing Stratocruisers Car Club, there is no admission charge to spectators.
