Snohomish County Fire Department Wins $136,000 Federal Grant
Thursday July 22nd, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced that the Snohomish County Fire Protection District 3 will be awarded $136,951.00 under the 2009 Fire Prevention & Safety program (FP&S), an initiative included in the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The grant will go toward developing a more comprehensive and responsive Fire Prevention Program. "I applaud the Snohomish County Fire Department for seeking and winning this federal funding," said Rep. Jay Inslee (WA-01), who represents the Southern portion of Snohomish County. "At a time when every organization is running on paper-thin budgets, it's vitally important our emergency services have adequate funding to fully-train and fully-equip firefighters in the field. Our community needs top-notch firefighters and this funding makes sure we'll have them." The primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations. Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
