Arnold Ebneter set a new world record for long distance flight today when he touched down in Washington DC. Arnold Ebneter, a Harvey Field tenant, engineer, retired military fighter pilot, DPE and Chief Instructor, departed Harvey Field at 12 noon yesterday July 25th to attempt a record breaking non-stop flight to Washington DC. The Snohomish Times caught up with Arnold at his hangar while he prepared for his journey that will put him in the record books. It's long been a dream of Arnolds to construct this plane from plans that he himself engineered. Years of pain staking and meticulous craftsmanship has brought these plans to fruition. As a Harvey family friend, tenant and Snohomish flight instructor, it was only natural to get a grand send off from the people that know him best, his airfield family and friends. Arnold looked right at home inside his custom constructed airplane that fit him like a glove; in fact if you were to envision a sports car for the sky, this would be it. Of course Arnold can identify with real air power from the days of being a fighter pilot during the Vietnam War. He is a true hero and pioneer all wrapped in a very fit vintage frame. You wouldn't know it but Arnold is over 80 years old. Arnold Ebneter completed his record setting flight in approximately 19 hours. He departed Snohomish's Harvey Field at Noon on Sunday July 25th arriving Paine Field minutes later to have his plane weighed and inspected. He then departed for Washington DC arriving at 10:58 Eastern Daylight Time. Great job Arnold! All of us here in Snohomish solute you! Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your history making event.
