Friday afternoon, the leaders of Snohomish and many citizens gathered at the Snohomish Library to kick off the celebrations in recognition of the 150th Anniversary. The celebration began with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by the singing of the Star Spangled Banner by the very talented young vocalist Rebecca. The gathering then moved back into the library where Mayor Hamlin rallied the citizens to process to Everett where he would demand that Everett give back the county records and seat to its rightful owner the City of Snohomish. Before the crowd could leave for Everett, Chief Turner stopped everyone stating that due to the floods and for the citizens safety he couldnt allow the procession to take place. Mayor Hamlin agreed that public safety was the priority today but promised those gathered that he would be offering a resolution to Everett and Snohomish County, that in lieu of returning the documents, they proclaim 2009 as the year to "Come Home Snohomish". Those gathered then processed to the Snohomish Visitor Information Center in limousines and vintage autos to continue the kick off celebration. We encourage you to join us at future celebrations we have planned. Visit the website www.ComeHomeSnohomish.com for a calendar of future events.
