Klahowya girls over Bethel in lacrosse opener

Junior attacker Madison Snellenberg scored just 14 seconds into the contest igniting a six-goal un as Klahowya cruised to an opening-night Washington state girls high school lacrosse win downing Bethel 20 – 2, Thursday at Central Kitsap Junior High School in Silverdale.

Snellenberg, who grabbed the opening draw and scampered into the Bethel zone launching her shot past Braves goaltender Hanna Elston, had four goals on the night. Along with junior Cassidy Andrews, who topped all scorers with six goals, the two combined for half of Klahowya’s output.

Andrews’ six-goal output exceeded the five scores by the midfielder during the entire 2013 season.

Bethel finally got on the board at 15:27 of the first on a solo shot by junior defender Leah Peterson. Klahowya answered with six of their own to take a healthy 12 – 1 lead into the halftime break.

In the second, junior midfielder Cassidy Andrews got right down to business scoring just 17 seconds into the half for the first of eight Eagles goals in the second.

Bethel managed just one more as junior midfielder Molly Thomas fired home the Braves second and final goal of the night at the 13:32 mark.

Klahowya goaltender Kennedy Daniels had four saves on the night, while Bethel stopper Hanna Elson had seven.
