YMCA to buy 4730 Colby

The YMCA of Snohomish County has submitted an offer of $3.325 million for the school district property at 4730 Colby Avenue in Everett. At the May 26 school board meeting, the Everett Public Schools superintendent will ask the board for authorization for facilities and planning staff to complete a purchase and sales agreement with the YMCA of Snohomish County to purchase this property.

The YMCA has been at its current location for more than 115 years. Facility replacement of the aging downtown YMCA has been evaluated through a series of market and feasibility studies over the past decade. Studies have shown that it is not financially feasible to renovate the current facility and that a new building will significantly increase the Ys ability to serve youth, adults, and families.
Today, the geographic center of Everett is closer to 75th Avenue. A new Everett Family YMCA will respond to the growing, changing, and diverse needs of the Everett community. Today more than 80 different languages are spoken within Everett Public Schools. Furthermore, there are an additional 40,000 people moving into Everett within the next 20 years. This eight acre parcel provides the YMCA the opportunity to expand its program and facility offerings over time.
The YMCA of Snohomish County currently serves 109,000 individuals annually. “A new Everett YMCA will be transformative for the community and increase Everett’s ability to serve individuals by 300%,” said Scott Washburn, President/CEO, YMCA of Snohomish County.
