Hoax Device Left Outside Marysville Court

Detectives are investigating the events surrounding a suspicious package left outside of the Marysville Municipal Court and discovered early Monday morning.

A Marysville Custody Officer, acting as a court bailiff, found the package, a laptop-type shoulder bag, sitting outside the court this morning about 08:45 a.m. He glanced inside and was immediately concerned about the contents. He began to evacuate the court building, located at 1015 State Ave., and called for a police response.

Marysville officers closed State Avenue and blocked surrounding access roads and called for the Washington State Patrol Bomb Squad. A remote controlled robot was used and a controlled detonation exploded the bag and its contents. It was determined a device in the bag was a hoax device made to look like a real bomb.

The court was closed for the morning court calendar. It reopened about 1:15 p.m. and the afternoon calendar proceeded as scheduled.

Marysville detectives continue to investigate and are asking that anyone who may have any information regarding the hoax bomb contact the Marysville Police Investigations Unit at 360.363.8350.
