Home Grown Snohomish Family

Ed Stocker had long been known as the Corn King. Along with his wife of almost 60 years, Ed and Edith Stocker were going to lead the Kla Ha Ya Days parade Saturday July 15th at 10:30 a.m. Instead, members of the Stocker family will fulfill the honors.

Ed and Edith were asked to be Grand Marshals in honor of their lifelong service to their community and the agricultural world. The Stockers are among heritage farming families that have been in the Snohomish area for almost a hundred years.

Throughout their farming lives, the Stockers accumulated agricultural land. Property below their home became Stocker Fields where the annual soccer tournament will be played beginning Saturday, July 15th from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with finals on Sunday July 16th.

More of the Stocker land is now the new boat launch on the Snohomish riverfront at Lincoln Avenue. Community involvement for Ed included years on the Snohomish City & Planning Commission, the Food Bank Board, the Senior Center, and the first swimming pool in the City. Ed also started the first 4H Club in Snohomish County after receiving his American FFA (Future Farmers of America) degree in 1948. That 4H Club became the largest one in the U.S. after three years.

When asked about their commitment to community service, Ed replied, “That’s what you do for your city.” His humble response to being Grand Marshal was, “I’ll serve the community.” Bob Dvorak, Kla Ha Ya Days president, added, “Ed was a constant in Snohomish. A great story teller and always there for his community which he took a lot of pride in. He is missed. We are glad the city, his friends and the community can give him a fitting tribute with this year’s parade.”

Parade goers are encouraged to stay after the parade for fun games for all ages, a Food Court, Music, Beer & Wine Garden, the Street Fair and three performances by Venardos Circus. The Kla Ha Ya Beats 5K-10K Run begins at 6:30 p.m. For the full schedule of events and times go to http://klahayadays.com/events/schedule/
