Firefighters extinguish early morning fire

At 4:00 AM firefighters were dispatched to a report of a house fire at the 20200 block of 45th Drive SE. When crews arrived on scene they found an active fire in the attached carport and heavy smoke in the home.

Firefighters worked to extinguish the fire and stopped the spread of the fire into the home and attic space. During primary search of the residence, crews found and rescued a kitten.

Firefighters vented the roof of the residence and used fans to remove the smoke.

There is extensive damage to the carport and some smoke damage in the home. Homeowners should be able to reenter the home later today.

Homeowner woke up to the smell of smoke and was able to alert the others in the home to get out safely. No injuries were reported.

Snohomish County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
