Gang-related shooting in Everett

Everett Police investigate gang-related shooting, suspect arrested.

Victim transported and treated for nonlife-threatening injuries.

The Everett Police Department responded to a gang-related shooting that occurred in the street in the 10100 block of 9th Avenue West. A teenaged victim was shot in the leg and fled to a nearby gas station. Everett patrol officers, the Gang Response Unit, and Anti-Crime Team responded and were able to locate and arrest the suspect approximately two hours after the shooting.

At 9:13pm on July 5th, Everett officers responded to a report of a male at a south Everett gas station that had just been shot. Officers contacted the 17-year-old victim at the gas station, who is a known gang member. The investigation showed that he was confronted and shot by a rival gang member in the roadway nearby. The victim appeared to only have a grazing wound that was not life threatening. He was transported and treated at Providence Regional Medical Center.

The suspect fled on foot into a nearby apartment complex after the shooting. The immediate area was cordoned off as officers investigated the scene and attempted to track down the suspect. Bullet casings were recovered from the roadway. A police K-9 track led to an apartment at the adjacent complex, where the suspect was reported to reside. A Gang Response Unit officer made phone contact with the occupants of the apartment, who came outside and were detained. The suspect was one of the occupants. A search warrant was later approved and served on the residence. During the search, a handgun was recovered that is believed to be the one that was used in the shooting.

The 19-year-old suspect was interviewed, arrested and booked for Assault 1st and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 2nd, due to previous felony convictions which prohibit him from possessing firearms.

The Gang Response Unit, Anti-Crime Team, Major Crimes Unit and patrol officers continue to investigate, gather evidence and contact witnesses related to this case.
