Firefighters quickly extinguish garage fire

[Snohomish, WA] – At 7:13 PM Lake Stevens Fire was dispatched to a report of a residential structure fire at the 400 block of 82nd Avenue SE. Firefighters arrived on scene to find smoke coming from the garage and all smoke alarms sounding.

The family was in the living room when they noticed smoke coming from the vent. The father went to the interior garage door to investigate. Once he opened the door he was met with heavy smoke and could see fire in the corner of the garage. He quickly shut the door and helped his family evacuate the house and called 911.

Due to a quick response from firefighters, they were able to arrive on scene cut open the garage door and access the fire. Crews were able to control and contain the fire to the garage saving the rest of the home from the flames.

The family of three and their dog are not able to return into their home tonight due to minor smoke damage in the home.

Snohomish County Fire District 7, Marysville Fire and Snohomish Fire assisted in extinguishing the fire.

The Lake Stevens Fire Marshal and Snohomish County Fire Marshal are investigating the cause of the fire.

Lake Stevens Fire wants to remind all residents to test your smoke alarms regularly and replace all alarms after 10 years. Furthermore, in the event of a fire, having a closed door helps prevent the rapid spread of fire.
