Goodbye PIT, Hello Hundred Million Dollar Snohomish High School Remodel    Print Snohomish Times     Photos

There is probably more sadness in Snohomish over the close score in the recent basketball game on Tuesday night between the Snohomish Panthers and the cascade Bruins then there is in losing the PIT.

The old gym or the practice gym or the PIT, no matter what you call it Snohomish is replacing it with something bigger and better. The $110 million Snohomish high school remodel is probably worth over 150 million in today's dollars.

The original school bond levy to build one new high school one new elementary school and remodel the old high school fell far short in what was needed during the boom years of 2006-2008. Needing a second bond levy to finish the remodel on the old high school and build a new middle school, the district went to the voters again and it was approved.

The work being done at Snohomish high school is nothing less than spectacular, top shelf work! Beautiful new buildings of brick and glass dot the Snohomish campus. Very little will be left of the old high school at the time this project is finished.

As far as the Snohomish vs Cascade Boys basketball game on Tuesday night, the Bruins lead the entire game and although Snohomish mounted a mini comeback in the fourth quarter, it wasn't enough.

The final score was, Snohomish 60 and Cascade 62. Cascade scoring leaders; McGrath 31, McDaniels 13, Barton 9. Snohomish scoring leaders; Hamlin 11, Sterley 2, Carlson 20, Savage 2, Reichenberger 5, McGee 10.

Material girl Michelle Obama is a modern-day Marie Antoinette

Material girl Michelle Obama is a modern-day Marie Antoinette on a glitzy Spanish vacation.
Sacrifice is something that many Americans are becoming all too familiar with during this economic downturn. It was a key theme in President Obama's inaugural address to the nation, and he's referenced it numerous times when lecturing the country on how to get back on its feet.

But while most of the country is pinching pennies and downsizing summer sojourns - or forgoing them altogether - the Obamas don't seem to be heeding their own advice. While many of us are struggling, the First Lady is spending the next few days in a five-star hotel on the chic Costa del Sol in southern Spain with 40 of her "closest friends."
