Grizzlies Baseball heads to Pasco     Print

In what should’ve been a District title game between two division leading teams wound up being the battle for district number three to state.

After losing to Meadowdale, Glacier Peak was looking at a do or die scenario for getting back in the hunt for a state title. Shorewood was also behind the eight ball looking to secure that final spot.

On paper this all but looked like a formality with Shorewood beating Glacier Peak all three regular season games. But baseball is a peculiar sport, some teams don’t find their Mojo until the end of the season. The Snohomish Panthers found that out the hard way, having their Mojo early losing only two league games all season, but in post season they lost two in a row exiting the playoffs early.

Glacier Peak showed up to Meridian Park in Shoreline loaded for bear or is it loaded with bear. Whatever you call it the bats rang out with hit after hit.

Josh ‘Big play May’ and ‘The Wrestler’ Sean Elledge each scored twice while Tanner Braun completely dismantled Shorewoods batting rotation.

The senior right-hander threw so much heat that it was hard to tell if it was the weather causing us to sweat or if it was Braun’s pitching. Tanner went six before he had a hiccup in his nearly perfect game and that came at the hands of Ben Andrews who sent one over the fence in left field.

In fact I had mention to our announcer that Ben Andrews looked like he had been working out and may send one out of the park, sure enough he did.

But in the end the Grizzlies swung hard, pounding out a convincing 10-1 victory with an offense that produced 11 hits, 19 on base and no errors.

After the game we caught up with Coach Bob Blair to get his thoughts on his boys of summer.

“I am so proud of our boys for delivering on this must win game. They came in here knowing that it was time to put up or go home” Blair said. “I have to say that I am a Braun believer! He is the mule that has been pulling our kart all season long” he said.

“We have a group of guys here that can get the job done. I like our chance at state” Blair continued. “Now we will see how we stack up against the best teams in the state” he said.

Coach Bob Blair has been coaching baseball for many years including for the Snohomish Panthers before accepting the head baseball coaching position for Glacier Peak. Coach Blair is also the Athletic Director for the Grizzlies since they opened in 2008.

Glacier Peak 18-6 overall. Shorewood 20-4.
